Beginning of Term 2 2025 Circularby hp

Greetings.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Warm greetings from all of us at Raphela Junior School. On behalf of the board of directors, management and staff of Raphela Junior School, I extend a very hearty welcome as we return from the holidays. In the same way, we send our deepest appreciation to you for taking care of our children during the holidays, keeping them safe, healthy, and for the continued trust you have always placed in us to walk this journey of growth together. While the children have been resting and recharging at home, we too have been steadily preparing on our side; readying the environment, refining our programs, and re-aligning our goals - all in anticipation of their return. We are truly excited to welcome them back to a term full of promise and opportunity.

A special welcome goes out to our new friends who have joined us this term; thank you for choosing Raphela Junior School. We are deeply honored and profoundly grateful to have you with us.

At Raphela, we remain steadfast in our mission to provide holistic learning that nurtures academic, spiritual, social, emotional, and physical development. It is a commitment we carry with pride, keeping true to the values and vision that shape our path.

Academics

At Raphela Junior School, we remain deeply committed to nurturing academic excellence in all our learners. Our school motto, “Nurture Excellence for Greatness” — is the cornerstone of all our endeavors. It is a constant reminder that every child is unique, capable, and deserving of an education that inspires, equips, and uplifts.

In line with our ‘No Child Left Behind’ approach, we recognize that academic progress is not a journey for the school alone. It is a shared responsibility that thrives when teachers, parents and learners work hand in hand. As we begin the new term, we reaffirm our commitment to meaningful engagement between school and home. And as such, our signature Meet My Teacher Day sessions will be held once again this term. These one-on-one conversations

among the parent, child, and teacher offer a rare moment of honest reflection and shared goal setting. Involving the children in these discussions allows them to evaluate their own progress and articulate clear action points — which in turn strengthens their sense of ownership and accountability. Over the years, we have seen these sessions ignite a sense of responsibility, sharpen focus, and motivate children to reach their potential.

As we move into the term, we kindly request parents to support us by ensuring that each child is well equipped with all the books as advised and shared during and after the Curriculum Meetings. These materials are essential in enabling our teachers to deliver quality instructions and ensure that no child lags behind. We thank the parents who have consistently ensured that children are adequately prepared, and we ask that this culture be embraced by all.

Literacy Week 2025

We believe that the seeds of a lifelong love for reading are best planted early. And this is why we are thrille d to announce our upcoming Literacy Week — a dedicated time to celebrate the magic of words and nurture the young minds of our children through the joy of reading. The week will be filled with a variety of enriching fun activities including creative writing, story presentations, poem recitals, reading circles, spelling challenges, and short skits inspired by our children’s favorite books.

Through this endeavor, our main goal is to ignite imagination, build vocabulary, and foster public speaking skills; all while creating a fun and engaging environment for our children. Activities will take place at the class level, with every child getting a chance to participate and grow in confidence.

Dear Parents and Guardians, we warmly invite you to be part of this exciting journey. Kindly consider donating reading materials to enrich our school library and help us build a lasting reading culture at Raphela. We also encourage those willing to volunteer as guest readers during our class sessions to kindly let us know. Your presence and involvement mean the world to us and to the children.

STEM Innovation Fair

We are pleased to introduce the STEM Innovation Fair to our ever-expanding list of enriching school events. This exciting new addition will provide our children with an opportunity to demonstrate how they can translate classroom knowledge into practical, real-world solutions. It is a celebration of innovation, creativity, and application of science, technology, and mathematics.

This event will involve a variety of hands-on projects, model building, and critical thinking demonstrations across all classes. Our children will be challenged to think deeply, work collaboratively, and bring their ideas to life.

We warmly invite all parents and guardians to attend and explore all exhibits on the day of the fair not just those presented by your own child. Each project will reflect the imagination and learning journeys of our children, and we are confident that you will be inspired by the collective brilliance on display.

Like always, the success of our school events is made possible by your unwavering support. As our children prepare for the fair, we kindly ask you to walk the journey with them, offer your guidance, ignite their curiosity, and encourage their resilience.

Robotics club

In keeping with our commitment to nurturing 21st-century learners, we are pleased to continue with the Robotics this term. This unique program offers our children an opportunity to engage in hands-on exploration of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in ways that spark creativity, innovation, and real-world problem-solving.

Through interactive sessions, our children are guided to think critically, explore coding, construct models and apply scientific concepts in exciting and practical ways. It is a joy to witness the curiosity and confidence that emerges as they design, test and refine their own ideas.

We strongly do believe in raising future-ready minds and the Robotics Club is one of the many spaces where our children grow into thinkers, creators and solution-seekers.

We encourage you our dear parents to enroll children and staying engaged with their creative journeys. Termly payment for the club of One hundred and fifty thousand shillings only (150,000/=) are being received at the school administrative office.

Abacus and Mental Math Programme

The Abacus and Mental Math Programme continues to offer immense benefits for our children. Over the past terms, we’ve witnessed steady growth, deepened focus, and heightened enthusiasm among the children engaged in this training. The program sharpens not only their arithmetic accuracy but also improves memory, concentration, and critical thinking abilities.

This term, we are delighted to progress to the next level of the training. We are confident that with continued exposure, our children will further unlock their mathematical potential and strengthen their cognitive foundation. We look forward to celebrating their growth and milestones throughout this new phase.

Termly payment for the Abacus and Mental Math Programme is Two hundred thousand shillings only (200,000/- Co-Curricular Activities.

At Raphela Junior School, we remain deeply committed to providing our children with enriching experiences that extend beyond the academic curriculum. We strongly believe that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. It spills into the playground, echoes in the rhythm of dance steps, and shines through teamwork on the court. This term, once again, we continue to offer a broad spectrum of co-curricular activities, thoughtfully structured into various clubs. These engagements are designed to ignite creativity, foster teamwork, and nurture leadership and communication skills which all are critical ingredients in shaping a well-rounded individual.

Like our school mission goes, “To provide holistic learning that ensures each child experiences academic, social, spiritual, emotional, and physical development through a progressive child-empowering education programme,” we ensure that every child actively participates in at least one club, with guidance and support from our dedicated staff. This involvement allows them to explore their interests, grow their talents, and gain confidence beyond the traditional classroom space.

The clubs offered this term include; Performing Arts, Creative Arts, Creative Mindset, Chess, Netball, Football, Basketball, Science, Mathematics, Ballet, Swimming, Debate, Literacy (Reading and Spelling), Volleyball, and Boy Scouts and Girl Guides.

Note : Children in the swimming club are also required to make a termly payment of One hundred and twenty thousand shillings (120,000/=) to the administrative office.

Educational Trips

At Raphela Junior School, we value educational trips as invaluable opportunities for our children to gain pract ical, real-world experiences. These trips enable children to see firsthand how their classroom lessons apply in the real world. For instance, visits to historical landmarks, museums, and industrial sites deepen their understanding of theoretical concepts and may ignite their passion for future career paths. This term, children from Primary One to Seven will embark on enriching journeys to diverse destinations. More details about these excursions will be shared with you.

School Diaries

At the start of the year, each one of our children received a school diary. This is an important bridge for communication between school and home. We kindly note, with concern, that some diaries are not being reviewed consistently by parents. These diaries hold a wealth of da ily updates and valuable insights into your child’s school life.

We encourage you to make it a routine to read through your child’s diary and have meaningful conversations about its contents. This not only fosters accountability but also reinforces your child’s sense of responsibility towards their learning journey.

That said, our open-door policy remains in effect. We warmly welcome in-person discussions for any matters that require deeper engagement or clarity.

School Operating Hours

At Raphela Junior School, our gates open at 7:00am and close at 5:00pm. The Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Lower Primary section (P.1 to P.2) ends their school day at 3:00pm, while the Upper Primary section (P.3 to P.7) concludes at 4:30pm.

We deeply appreciate your continued cooperation in keeping time and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all our children.

School Uniform

The school uniform is a significant part of our identity. It is a symbol of unity, discipline and a source of pride. We would love to see all our children dressed smartly and neatly in it every day. We kindly remind our dear parents and guardians that each child is expected to report to school in full, proper school uniform.

For girls, while plaited hairstyles are allowed, they must be kept neat and styled in simple, well-arranged puffs. Brightly colored braids or extravagant hairstyles are not permitted. Each child is also required to carry a handkerchief daily as part of our hygiene expectations. Kindly note that accessories such as bangles, bracelets, and dangling earrings are not allowed.

Birthday Celebrations

Our dear parents and guardians, we truly cherish the joy that comes with celebrating our children’s birthdays. These moments of laughter and friendship are special to us. However, to maintain the smooth flow of our daily routines, all birthday celebrations must be carefully coordinated.

Kindly note that we can accommodate only one celebration per day, and advance booking is required to secure a date for your child. All celebrations take place strictly at 10:00 a.m., and we are unable to make exceptions to this timing. Only freshly baked cakes and snacks will be permitted.
